Madden travels with bags of fabric to match the hue of any sunset or the blue of any water. She would describe it as “painting with thread” and can look out at a landscape and stitch something together. She’s a landscape quilter, who was an artist-in-residence at Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. If I were to buy a piece of art, it would be by. Reading this book helped add some perspective to the places that I’ve been and places I will go in the future. It’s underneath the forest floor in a lot of cases, but really impacts everything else that you might see in the woods. I really enjoyed that because it’s the nature that you don’t see. It’s all about the fascinating world of fungi. The best book I’ve read in the last year is.

But that’s about as luxury as you can get out in the woods. That made a difference, especially when traveling to dozens of national parks in the course of a year. The necessary luxury I took on my national park journey was. Whether I’m doing a story for CBS Sunday Morning or writing the book about the parks, everything I’ve done has come back to being curious about other people and the world. They instilled a love of learning in me and they taught me to be curious. People who inspired me to do what I do include. I saw an entirely different side of that park than I had seen in the past. Olympic was one that I went to in the fall of my year of seeing all of them, and I went back again last year in the summer. You can visit the same park in different seasons, and it feels entirely different. Olympic National Park in Washington state.

A national park visit I’d love to relive is.
